Credentials

I am a credentialed professional coach and member in good standing of the International Coaching Federation (ICF). I received formal professional coaching training through the Business Coaching Institute at Transformation Edge in Raleigh, NC. I currently hold a PCC (Professional Certified Coach) designation from the ICF.

Current work

I am a full-time coach focusing on leadership in academic healthcare. I speak nationally on the topic of managing difficult conversations. I’m on the faculty of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) fellowship, a celebrated program designed to hone leadership skills for senior faculty in academic health care, where I teach about difficult conversations and managing toxic behavior.

Academic Background

I am a Professor Emerita at Duke University School of Medicine where I worked for 32 years. I was a Professor of Medicine/Endocrinology (with Tenure), and for over a decade prior to retirement I served as Vice Dean for Faculty. In that role I oversaw faculty leadership development, research mentoring initiatives, an internal coaching program and the Office of Faculty Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure. I also led efforts to resolve complex faculty conflicts, navigating high-stakes interpersonal and organizational dynamics. All of this grounds my coaching in the realities of academic medicine.

Personal and Education

I grew up in Ann Arbor MI, received my BA from Mount Holyoke College and my MD from Stanford University Medical School. I completed my Internal Medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and my Endocrine fellowship at Duke University.
